Livelihood Empowerment
This involves working with individuals and communities whose livelihood has a direct negative impact on the environment and assisting them to adopt and adapt to a more sustaining alternative livelihoods. Example of such activity includes charcoal production, illegal chainsaw operation and illegal mining.
Afforestation
The establishment of a forest or stand of trees in an area where there was no forest reforestation is the reestablishment of forest cover, either naturally (by natural seeding, coppice, or root suckers) or artificially (by direct seeding or planting). Afforestation creates forests, increases carbon capture and sequestration, and helps to improve biodiversity. GAEN networks with other environmental organizations and communities to embark on massive afforestation and reforestation projects in communities in which deforestation is very rampant and faces the treat of desertification.

Land Reclamation and Revegetation
The Land Reclamation and Revegetation Program assures that mined land is returned to the best possible condition for use after mining is completed. Our program administers the State statutes, regulations, policies and directives of the Minerals Commission. We work to ensure that mined lands are available for economic development, and after reclamation, the land is available for new development or public use, especially revamping of the forest cover of the area where the mining has taken place.

River Bank Conservation
Mitigation banks are purely prospective ecosystem restoration projects that provide mostly restoration of the forest cover of river banks before adverse impacts to other aquatic ecosystems occur. Thus river bank conservation plays an important role in reducing the risk of ecological failure of restoration projects by successfully reaching pre-determined project milestones.

Ecotourism
Ecotourism is a type of tourism involving visiting fragile, pristine and relatively undisturbed natural areas intended as low impact and often small scale alternative to standard tourism. Its purpose is to educate the traveler to provide funds for ecological conservation to directly benefit the economic development and political empowerment of local communities, or to foster respect for deferent cultures and for human rights. The focus of this area would be on building the capacity of community with tourism potential on how to properly maintain it to enhance their development. Since the 1980s, ecotourism has been considered a critical endeavour by environmentalists, so that future generations may experience destinations relatively untouched by human intervention. The focus of GAEN will be on the following:
- Travel to natural destinations
- Minimization of impact
- Building environmental awareness
- Providing direct financial resources for conservation
- Providing financial recourses and empowerment for local people
- Respect for local culture
- Human rights and democratic movements
